Welcome to Caithness Horizons, a fascinating Museum that brings to life the history and culture of Caithness.
Caithness Horizons houses a permanent collection that tells the story of the county of Caithness from 416 million years ago to the present day including the Picts, the Vikings and the history of the Dounreay Nuclear Research Establishment.

Within Caithness Horizons is the Thurso VisitScotland Information Centre. Here you’ll find friendly, knowledgeable local experts who will inspire you to do and see more in Thurso and the surrounding area.
They can tell you what’s on and where to go. Help you find accommodation locally or throughout Scotland and book Calmac ferry tickets, Citylink bus tickets and Historic Scotland passes. You’ll also find a small shop stocked with a range of fascinating books which tell the history of the area as well as a great range of souvenirs and gifts.
